Wesley's Baby Blanket

Wesley's Baby Blanket

Please describe and tell us about your baby blanket.

This is my execution of the Pamela's Blanket pattern from Knit Picks for the birth of my first grandson. I started it two weeks before he was born, working only a few rows at the most each day and finished it five weeks later.

What yarn and needles did you use and where did you get them? Why did you pick this yarn? It was knit with Brown Sheep's Cotton Fleece, Milk Chocolate color on US size 8 needles. The yarn was from my LYS, the Knitting Basket in Richmond, VA. The shop clerk showed me a knitted swatch of this yarn and I saw how well it survived machine washing and drying. New parents need easily washed fibers and the baby deserves natural fibers.

Tell us more about your design. Was it inspired by another pattern? Why did you pick those colors?
This was a fairly faithful execution of Pamela's Blanket pattern from Knit Picks. The color, Milk Chocolate, was from the color scheme chosen by my daughter-in-law for her unborn child.

Did you run into any problems when knitting your baby blanket? How long did it take you to knit?
I found myself skipping rows in the pattern when not concentrating. All but one of those mistakes was frogged and reworked.

Anything else you'd like to share about your baby blanket or knitting in general?
As the baby's due date drew near, I found myself getting weepy about his arrival. The knitting allowed me to focus that energy in a very constructive way.
