Upside-down Daisy Knitted Baby Hat
(Bay City, MI, USA)
This knit baby hat is the “upside-down daisy” from a wonderful book I’ve been planning to knit my way through. Everything in it is sooooo stinkin’ cute! It’s itty-bitty hats by Susan B. Anderson and I picked it up at a fabulous yarn store on a family trip to Cannon Beach, Oregon last fall.
I used Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino for the body of the hat, some bamboo for the pink part, and the white and green were organic cotton. The Debbie Bliss came from the same Oregon yarn store where I bought the book, and the rest came from my local yarn shop - A Piece of Ewe in Bay City, MI. I love Debbie Bliss yarns and this rich purple really caught my eye. I knew I'd be able to use it for one of the designs in the book.
Every pattern in this book is soo adorable! I've done one other hat so far, and it turned out adorable as well - a striped stocking hat.
It’s probably been about a year since I last knitted anything, so I was a little bit rusty. I’m not sure if I did something wonky or if it’s just that I was knitting in the round that the whole thing’s a tad slanty. It took about a week of evenings to finish.
My advice to newbies is not to get intimidated by knitting. It's only two stitches (knit & purl) combined in different orders. Reading a pattern can seem overwhelming, but just try to read one step at a time and before you know it you'll be increasing, slipping, and cabling away!
