The Unknown Baby Quilt
This quilt was made for my friends baby. I started it when she was 6 mos along and did not know what sex the baby was. Therefore I was trying to create a quilt that was gender neutral.
Both of us like blues and greens and I threw in a bit of orange to give it some pop. She ended up having a boy, and good thing too, since the quilt is very "boyish".
The inside panels with the animals were from a whole cloth panel that I cut into squares. They are bordered in either orange/green or blue depending on the square. I then used the original block borders of the whole cloth panel cut up to make the strip piecing between the rows and for the binding. The design is my own.
This is approximately my 5th quilt. It is machine pieced and machine quilted. The majority of it is quilted with a straight stitch. The animal blocks are freehand machine quilted.
I started this quilt before Ezra born, but did not finish it until he was a year and a half (I ended getting pregnant shorty after he was born, so my time was limited). When I gave it to him he scrunched it up and crawled under a table and layed his head on it. Love at first sight. :)
