Star Blanket, perfect for a Texas baby

Star Blanket, perfect for a Texas baby

Please describe and tell us about your baby blanket.

Here in Texas, our state song's first line is "The Stars at night are big in bright, deep in the heart of Texas!", so when my friend told me she was expecting, I knew a star shaped baby blanket would be perfect. And when she told me she'd be having a boy, the blue, white and navy color scheme turned out to be perfect. The blanket was crocheted using mostly double crochet and a few other crochet stitches.

What yarn and needles did you use and where did you get them? Why did you pick this yarn?

I used an F size Boye hook and Bernat Satin yarn. The hook I got as a present over Christmas from Knit Picks and the yarn I had bought at Michael's, a long time before I had learned about KP and their wonderful yarns. I used this yarn because I knew it would be easy to wash and care for since babies tend to not care about what they get dirty.

Tell us more about your design. Was it inspired by another pattern? Why did you pick those colors?

The design is Chromium Star Blanket by Laura Lynn Hank but I modified the colors and the edge. I chose not to do the modified edge of the blanket because I liked having full sized stripes. I picked the colors of white, light blue and navy blue because they are associated with baby boys but are highly complimentary. Also, the navy stripe adds a bit of pop to the star and gives a nice definition to the shape.

Did you run into any problems when knitting your baby blanket? How long did it take you to knit?

The blanket took me about 17 days to crochet, mostly working in the evenings. There were no problems because the pattern was really well written and easy to understand.

Anything else you'd like to share about your baby blanket or knitting in general?

I loved making this pattern and have gotten a ton of compliments on the blanket. This will be my go to baby blanket pattern when someone else in my life has a wee one.
