Sprout Blanket

by Alicia
(Union City, NJ)

Please describe and tell us about your baby blanket.

I love the whole design, babies grow and grow and grow and that's what I think of when I look at this blanket. Its leaves growing from the ground up, hats off to the designer :)

What yarn and needles did you use and where did you get them? Why did you pick this yarn?
Used Lion Brand Pound of Love in green, bought the yarn at A.C. Moore, not sure where I bought the circular needles (size 8). I picked this yarn because it's very soft and it was the only green I had and I wanted to make the blanket in green because the pattern is leaves.

Tell us more about your design. Was it inspired by another pattern? Why did you pick those colors?
I didn't design the blanket, I found the pattern on and fell completely in love with it :) I want to make another one actually but maybe make it bigger, the pattern as written is easy to modify to make the blanket longer and wider.

Did you run into any problems when knitting your baby blanket? How long did it take you to knit?
Well, I had some problems with the pattern, originally it was only in a chart but the designer was nice enough to pass on the written instructions someone provided her, there were several errors in the written pattern but they were very easy to catch and change. It took me 21 days to make BUT that is only because I was making hats for two other charities not because the pattern is difficult (it isn't).

Anything else you'd like to share about your baby blanket or knitting in general?
I love to make baby blankets, I have no children and no one around me has any either so anything my mom and I make (I knit and she crochets) are donated to the local hospital, they are always in need of baby items and chemo caps.

I am part of a charity group on ravelry called Knit for Needs, we try to help people or groups who say they need knit/crochet items.
