Soft structured carrier

All the carrying positions

All the carrying positions

I've been through several purchased carriers wraps, slings, baby bjorn etc... I like them each but for different purposes. I wanted to find one carrier that could serve all my needs: I'm petite and my son is a chunky 10 month old most carriers hurt my back after about 20 minutes, one carrier that could do back, front and hip carry, to be able to get him on my back without help, and one that my husband could/would wear too.

I liked the ergo but like I said I've bought lots of carriers and didn't feel right about shelling out more money in my quest for the perfect carrier and I wanted something much simpler. I sat down one evening and made a carrier based on the ergo and taking ideas from instructions from multiple web sites for many different carriers, using only items I had on hand (thankfully I start alot of projects without finishing so I had everything I needed on hand: fabric, buckles, webbing, etc...).

I love my finished carrier. It is so comfortable. I can walk around with my son for hours without it hurting. I usually crisscross the straps when I wear him in a front carry, I find it more comfortable than the little back/chest strap. My son loves it too and often falls right to sleep. I haven't made a hood for it yet. That is next on my list. But so far so good and it didn't cost me a thing!

This is the first project I've ever completed without a pattern and I just love the way it turned out!

Well I used several different instructions but you can find everything you need for the most part by joining the Yahoo Sling Sewing Group and then looking under files.
