Sock Monkey Quilt

.This is the first quilt I ever made. Made while I was preggo with our son who is turning one this month. I used Butterick 4947 pattern, but left out the scallop detail. I tried to make the scallop, but it turned out terrible more than once and would have been way too busy with the fabrics I chose. The pattern directions are strange, so I was left with an inner monkey part and a complete outer edging. The pattern was put together differently from a normal quilt, as in make the inner and outer parts, then somehow sew them together instead of binding at the end. (i found out how to bind quilts later.) I replaced the scallop detail with white piping.

I went to a small quilt store for quilting templates and they suggested on my first quilt to try something easier. They were right. I couldn't even do the random pattern. I tried quilting circles of varying sizes around the edges. They are pretty wonky and misshapen. on the inner portion I quilted a big circle with rays coming out of it. The entire quilt is made with my little Bernina 1001. I made his bumper and crib skirt to match. The fabric is Moda 5 monkeys and the backing is fabric I bought pre-pregnancy while living in Hawaii in hopes of having a little boy. I have a Ton of that blue Hawaiian fabric!
