Sock Monkey Lovie Blanket
Please describe and tell us about your baby blanket.
This blanket was a special request. A friend wanted to give a newborn gift of a sock monkey earflap hat and a matching baby blanket. She wanted it to be car-seat sized, and I came up with the design and the idea to make it a blanket/"lovie" friend.
What yarn and needles did you use and where did you get them? Why did you pick this yarn?
Red Heart Yarn & size 10 needles for the blanket. (Size 5 for the monkey head) I don't love red heart yarn for this project because it's not terribly soft, but it was a time-sensitive project and the local Walmart craft dept. was the only yarn shop I could get to in time.
Tell us more about your design. Was it inspired by another pattern? Why did you pick those colors?
The spiral design was inspired by a pinwheel blanket I saw on the internet. I picked gray, white & red because those were the colors in the sock monkey hat I made to match the blanket.
Did you run into any problems when knitting your baby blanket? How long did it take you to knit?
No problems at all - it's actually a pretty easy knit. The head took about 3-4 hours and the blanket was 6-7.
Anything else you'd like to share about your baby blanket or knitting in general?
I'm a relatively new knitter, and I still get so excited when I learn something new. This was the first project I've done a picot edge on, and it just thrilled me to pieces!
