Peek-a-boo Giraffe
by Katie Winder
I made it for two dear friends of mine who are having a baby sometime this week. I chose bright colors and simple patterns for optimal visual stimulation (plus, it's just cutest that way!) The quilt is made using the crazy-nine patch pattern, and the giraffe applique is dark brown Minky, so it's super soft and fuzzy. The top is quilted to a flannel batting with simple straight-line machine quilting, and then the red Minky back was tacked on in a few key spots (it's a total pain to quilt through Minky). The binding is hand-sewn, and the quilt is about 34"x34". It's got a lovely heavy feel to it, but for a warm-climate baby, it could easily be made with no batt at all.
