Pale Blue Baby Quilt
by Hanne Matthiesen
Pale blue and white quilt
Last year I had my debut as a writer. My book "Nyt liv i gamle klude" (written in Danish only, sorry guys!) is about stitching in recycled/ vintage fabric. For my first meeting with my editor I made this quilt to illustrate to her what kind of style/universe I had in mind. I was in a bit of a hurry - and made it in 2 days. (See more of that story here if you like and here )
I’m not an experienced quilter though! This is my 3rd quilt ever. My main force is not my technical skills but my trust. I strongly believe in learning by doing; I simply start and go where it takes me. And so obviously passing on/ communicating ideas, inspiration and encouragement is the main point of my work!
Anyway, back to facts: A small quilt (32.5 x 41 inches/85 x 107 centimetres) for a baby’s bed or pram – or for your favourite wicker chair!
Materials: Small rectangles of recycled cotton and linen textiles (from shirts, tea towels, table cloths, bed cloths etc.) predominantly in pale blue and white shades – and a few red contrasting ”hot spots”.
Technique: 80 patches (10 x 18 centimeters) are machine stitched. Quilted by hand. Finally embellished with a pair of crotched or laced patches
