Orange & Yellow Zig Zag
by Cami
My sister gave me some bright orange fabric hoping that I could find a use for it. Honestly, I didn't know what to do with it. It was bright orange! It scared me. Then I found this pattern for a zig zag quilt. The orange fabric that I had was so bright, I knew this would be a great patten to show it off. I paired it with a yellow and separated the rows with white. Most of the fabrics used in this quilt, with the exception of a few, are of the Katie Jump Rope line. This quilt was machine pieced and machine quilted. I did a stitch in the ditch quilting in orange thread. I didn't quite have enough of the orange fabric to do the backing so I used what I had left and pieced together leftover squares from the top fabrics to make the backing. I wanted this quilt to be a little bigger in size so I added a four inch border. The final finished size is approximately 35x45. I used the remaining scraps from the top and made a scrappy binding in all yellow fabrics. I am no longer afraid of bright fabrics. I really enjoyed working with a bright fabric that normally would not be my first choice. It opened new horizons to me and I just love the way this quilt turned out.
