Never Far, Always Close Baby Blanket

by Kim
(Belleville NJ)

Please describe and tell us about your baby blanket.

Knitted in the round for my expected baby girl. Also knit a matching coming home dress and bonnet.

What yarn and needles did you use and where did you get them? Why did you pick this yarn?

Madeline Tosh Vintage superwash merino in Rose and Celadon on size 6 circular needles. Chose this yarn for its subtle color variegation and gorgeous stitch definition. I love the drape and the weight of the finished fabric. Used several long size six circular needles to knit

Tell us more about your design. Was it inspired by another pattern? Why did you pick those colors?

Used the Sweet Mama Small Sugar 'Far Away, So Close' shawl pattern. Modded to be knit in the round and to achieve a rectangular shape. I love this shawl pattern and have knit it several times. I thought it lent itself naturally to be knit in the round into a blanket.

Did you run into any problems when knitting your baby blanket? How long did it take you to knit?

Only problem was the beginning/center. Had to try a few approaches to get that squared away. In total took about two and a half weeks to knit.

Anything else you'd like to share about your baby blanket or knitting in general?
