Los Gatos Baby Quilt

I'm excited to enter my very first baby quilt in you contest! It was inspired by two cats named Owen & Weasel and I made it as a baby gift for my neighbors (Owen's owners) when their son Daniel was born last year. You see - their cat and our cat were terribly in love at the time, so much so that Owen actually moved in with us for two years until they finally moved away....a very sad day indeed.

I didn't want this quilt to be a traditional baby quilt, so I chose to use a more sophisticated color palette of black, brown, beige and cream. I wanted it to have a "cat theme" without being too "catty" if you know what I mean....Both of Daniel's parents are quite scholarly and academic - they have an entire wall of their living room covered with books! So, when I found the beige fabric with script as a pattern I thought it would be perfect. The brown I associated with coffee which was perfect because Daniel's dad was working part time for Starbucks while completing his Masters in Theology.

The quilt design is my own pattern and was machine quilted. The finished dimensions are 40" x 40". I made the quilt from start to finish in a marathon of quilting during a two day holiday from my work!
