Lone Star Blanket

KRippy-Lone Star Blanket

KRippy-Lone Star Blanket

Please describe and tell us about your baby blanket.

This is the Lone Star Blanket published by Red Heart. I have wanted to crochet this blanket for a while but was intimated by it. It is crocheted using a diagonal block. Then the triangles are sewn together and a boarder is added.

What yarn and needles did you use and where did you get them? Why did you pick this yarn?

I purchased the yarn at Joann's since they were the only ones to carry the colors I wanted. The yarn was Red Heart TLC Baby in a pink and brown combination. I used this yarn because none of the other yarn companies had this combination.

Tell us more about your design. Was it inspired by another pattern? Why did you pick those colors?

This pattern was the reason I purchased the booklet. I have thought it was a pretty blanket but didn't have a baby to give it to. Now my nephew is expecting his first baby in May. The colors are the same as the baby's room. It has turned out larger than I thought, but I think it will make a nice crib blanket.

Did you run into any problems when knitting your baby blanket? How long did it take you to knit?

I did have trouble with the triangles keeping their shape. The pattern called for every 4th row to be holes, but when it didn't work I filled in the rows continuing the pattern.

The blanket took me about a month to crochet with the most time consuming part being the assembly.

Anything else you'd like to share about your baby blanket or knitting in general?

I enjoy crocheting and have just started to learn knitting. I am currently working on a baby blanket that is giving me confidence to try new things when I am finished.

This pattern has also given me ideas about how to make blankets without using the back and forth or granny square forms.
