Little Lion baby hat

Hat is crocheted, modified from a pattern for a hooded towel.
I used a Size F-5 crochet hook and a 1.5" piece of cardboard to ensure the loops for the lion's mane were even. I just used a medium weight worsted for the solid part and a variegated of the same weight for the mane.
The pattern used was free from Lion Brand Yarn - the Lion Baby Bath Wrap. I made only the hood portion and finished it by adding chained ties attached to the corners of the hood.
I loved making this. The looping for the mane was time-consuming but easy enough to do. The hat took me about six hours in total I suppose.
My daughter just loves the hat --- she asked me to make it for my grandson who is seven months old today (11/30/2010). As you can see from the photo, an old life-size baby doll was a perfect model!
