Let's Hear it for the Girl!
(Orange County, CA)
Please describe and tell us about your baby blanket.
I knit this blanket for a dear friend's baby girl. It was so much fun for me to work with some girly colors, because I have 3 sons! I wanted the blanket to be feminine, but not sickeningly so...my friend isn't an over-the-top, everything pink kind of mom. : )
What yarn and needles did you use and where did you get them? Why did you pick this yarn?
The yarn I chose was Weekend by Berroco, purchased at Yarn Lady in Laguna Hills, CA. I wanted a cotton or a cotton blend yarn for this project because we live in Southern California. Weekend has a slight sheen to it, and has amazing stitch definition. The colors were so beautiful that I had a hard time deciding! My original design was going to use 2 colors...instead I wound up using 8 colors!
I worked the blanket on size 10 Knit Pick Options Nickel Plated and Zephyr Acrylic needles.
Tell us more about your design. Was it inspired by another pattern? Why did you pick those colors?
I took my inspiration from the Circles and Stripes Stroller Blanket from the book "Itty-Bitty Nursery by Susan B. Anderson. I wanted the blanket to be big enough that Baby Lucia would be able to get use out of it as she gets older. The finished blanket is approximately 48"x48". After completing and assembling the four main squares for the body, I picked up and knit the border. I did a Picot Bind-off to add a girly touch. : )
Did you run into any problems when knitting your baby blanket? How long did it take you to knit?
I didn't run into any problems knitting this blanket. It took me about 8 weeks to complete it.
Anything else you'd like to share about your baby blanket or knitting in general?
I love the idea that by knitting something special for someone you love, you are giving them a piece of yourself. Every stitch has meaning, and the finished project is something to be cherished. I hope that years from now, Baby Lucia will love this blanket as much as I loved making it, and that warapping herself in it is like getting a hug from me!
