Katie's Tie-Dye Star
Please describe and tell us about your baby blanket.
My friend wanted a tie-dye baby blanket for her newborn, Ella. After wracking my brain with colors and searching patterns everywhere, this was the closest I could get. She LOVES it! Everyone has commented on how bright and fun it is. It was really fun to make. It's a pattern I love to use with different colors and different types of yarn.
What yarn and needles did you use and where did you get them? Why did you pick this yarn?
I used Caron's Simply Soft Brites yarn and either an I or J hook. (I can't remember because I've done this pattern with different types of yarn that require bigger hooks.) I love the yarn because it is sooo soft and easy care (perfect for baby blankets). The colors just jump right out at you. Ella won't outgrow the colors for quite some time.
Tell us more about your design. Was it inspired by another pattern? Why did you pick those colors?
I found the pattern online. I love it. I was looking for something that would spiral and found the star instead that is just stunning. I picked these particular colors because my friend wanted something close to tie-dye. I thought this might work a little better for a baby.
Did you run into any problems when knitting your baby blanket? How long did it take you to knit?
It took me a few weeks to make. I work full-time, but I was able to bring it with me on Saturdays which helped!
Anything else you'd like to share about your baby blanket or knitting in general?
I will definitely be making another blanket similar to this. I made another one in shades of pink and white for another friend's babyshower. And I've made two in Homespun with a bigger hook that work as lapghans or shawls. Everyone loves them and it's a fun pattern to work up.
