Jaidyn's Baby Blanket

Please describe and tell us about your baby blanket.
I knit 12 squares using different colors and patterns and crocheted them together to form this blanket.
What yarn and needles did you use and where did you get them? Why did you pick this yarn?
I used Caron Simply Soft Brites in Grape, Mango, Lemonade, Limelight, and Blue Mint and US size 8 needles. I don't recall where I got the yarn, but all my needles are Knitpick's Harmony. I picked this yarn because being acrylic, it's machine washable, which is a MUST for a baby blanket. Also, the yarn is extremely soft and the colors are bright. I wanted to stay away from the traditional baby pink blanket.
Tell us more about your design. Was it inspired by another pattern? Why did you pick those colors?
I used Debbie Abrahams' 100 Afghan Squares to Knit for inspiration and patterns of the various squares. Since the baby's mother is a fun, vivacious, and colorful person, I wanted to make something for her baby that would be like her - out of the ordinary. So, I stayed as far away as possible from the traditional baby blanket pastels and patterns.
Did you run into any problems when knitting your baby blanket? How long did it take you to knit?
The blanket took me a couple of months to knit (I was a beginner knitter at that time). The only problem I ran into was the fact that my squares were not all the same size. But I stretched some and squished some others as I was crocheting them together and it ended up working out just fine in the end.
Anything else you'd like to share about your baby blanket or knitting in general?
After making this blanket, I went on to make several others for other babies of family and friends. But this one is still very special to me and to little Jaidyn, who is now almost 3 years old.
