Ivy's Quilt

(a sewer)

Ivy models her quilt

Ivy models her quilt

This quilt is a version of the I Spy quilt. I love the idea of using faces in all of the squares because babies respond to faces. There are 140 faces in this quilt!

The quilt is approx. 36" X 46" and is machine pieces, hand quilted (including quilted hearts on the border) and "fussy" cut squares. The fabric is positioned over a light table and cut to fit just right within each square.

I have collected "face" fabrics for several years and don't even know how many different ones I have in my closet. It has been my baby quilt of choice for special friends. I've made 4 of them so far.

Sometimes I purposely put two squares of the same fabric in the quilt thinking that when the baby gets a little older, it would be like a matching game, looking for the pairs.

Love the quilt-And the baby's name-same as my mom's. And I agree with the grandma of two who thinks there should be another way to spell sewer to mean one who sews, not meaning the waste water system . I personally like "sewist."

I used your quilt as a guideline and made one for a new baby in our family and called it "I Spy/Matching." I used brightly colored squares of objects and animals for I Spy, and 2 of each for matching. I also liked your blue/red combination for sashing and borders. Thanks for the inspiration.
