Girl, please!

Please describe and tell us about your baby blanket.

This was knit for a cousin's baby before they found out if they were having a boy or girl. My original plan was to use khaki and cream for a boy or girl, but when i started shopping for yarn these bright girly colors were irresistable!

What yarn and needles did you use and where did you get them? Why did you pick this yarn?
I used bamboo dpn's with ponytail holders on one end of each needle. Honestly. The yarn is Plymouth Encore from my only LYS - Springer's Yarn Nook in Tuscumbia, AL. I chose this yarn because it is affordable, soft, and washable.

Tell us more about your design. Was it inspired by another pattern? Why did you pick those colors?
The pattern was Circle of Friends garter stitch blanket from Ravelry. I basically knit some squares (or slight rectangles, I'm sure!) and played with different crocheted edgings until I found something I liked. Crochet was my first yarn hobby. I love Ravelry!

Did you run into any problems when knitting your baby blanket? How long did it take you to knit?
I knit the squares over summer break, while my kids rode their bikes in the driveway and played at playgrounds. Knitting the squares made it a fun, brainless, portable project. Attaching the squares and adding the crocheted trim really made it come together!

Anything else you'd like to share about your baby blanket or knitting in general?
I am still trying new things and getting better at my hobby every day. I just learned to double knit! I mostly stick to yarn and needles I am familiar with due to financial issues. I feel so blessed as a stay at home mom to have the talent and patience to knit for friends and family! LOVE IT!
