Please describe and tell us about your baby blanket.

October, 2008, I learned that my best friend and officemate was pregnant. This was great news, except it meant that she would be leaving NY and moving to VA, where he husband was living. I wanted to knit her a blanket, but didn't even know how to knit. I took a lesson, practiced on 2 scarves, then started working on her blanket. I finished the blanket and a hat and booties the night before her last day in NY. I wrapped it up and gave it to her. She said she loved it, but then started crying when she learned I knitted it by hand. It was the best knitted gift I have ever given.

What yarn and needles did you use and where did you get them? Why did you pick this yarn?
Both purchased from Knit NYC (now closed), Size 6 needles, Cascade 220 superwash (because it is for a baby!)

Tell us more about your design. Was it inspired by another pattern? Why did you pick those colors?
I tried to use a pattern, but as a new knitter, I was having problems following the pattern. I instead just created this simple blanket.

Did you run into any problems when knitting your baby blanket? How long did it take you to knit?
Only problems were at the start, trying to follow another pattern. When I decided to do something different, I didn't encounter any problems. It took me almost 2 months (and it wasn't very big), but I was pleased with it, since it was only my 3rd project.

Anything else you'd like to share about your baby blanket or knitting in general?
I wish all my knitted gifts brought me this much joy.
