Free Baby Clothes Patterns - Toddler Dress Pattern
If you want free baby clothes patterns, here is a simple but cute toddler dress pattern. Perfect for beginning sewers, this project should take only about one hour from start to finish. This tutorial shows an unlined dress, perfect for the hot summer months with the simple tie back design.
As with all our free baby clothes patterns on our site, this toddler dress pattern is just a jumping off point! We offer the basic idea, pattern and instructions and it is up to you to customize it and make it your own. For example, with this project you could have a button closure or a zipper closure in the back rather than a tie, add trim on the bottom hem and where the bodice meets the skirt and of course don't forget pockets! Of course you could use plain fabric and embellish with Freezer Paper Stencils or Felt Applique or even Printed Fabric Applique too.
Toddler Dress Pattern Instructions:
Here is the
free toddler dress pattern PDF of the above image for you to print out. The dimensions given are for a size 2T. This pattern is so simple it will be easy to reduce or increase the dimensions for different sizes.
Cut out your pattern pieces as shown. The front and the back are identical, except the front skirt and bodice are separate, so an inch was added to the length for this seam. Cut a 6" slit down the center back, sew the two ties inside out and then turn them right side out using a pencil or chopstick. Sew the top bodice to the front skirt.
Since this in an unlined sundress, you must press all our edges down and sew them down. You could alternately line the dress instead. Sew the front dress panel to the back dress panel and then press the bottom of the skirt and sew. Sew on the ties about 1-2 inches from the top of the back slit.
Turn right side out and you are finished! Such a simple project just waiting for your own unique embellishments! Pockets, trim, buttons and more can be added to make it even more interesting.
