make baby stuff

for a December baby

Please describe and tell us about your baby blanket.

My blanket is about 3x3 feet, with a central panel made on two needles and then knit in the round on circulars after that, with a ruffle-edge castoff border.

What yarn and needles did you use and where did you get them? Why did you pick this yarn?

I always use cotton (machine wash and soft). For this blanket, I used up stash, so the types and sources of the yarn varied, but all were worsted weight.

Tell us more about your design. Was it inspired by another pattern? Why did you pick those colors?

My design was based on Barbara Walker's mosaic sampler, and I chose her mosaic patterns that looked winterish and Christmasy. Same with the colors. The ruffle edging is also a Walker pattern, which I adapted as a cast off edging. Unfortunately, it took WAY more yarn than anticipated, as you can see by color switch! But it got the baby in time--he was born on December 16.

Did you run into any problems when knitting your baby blanket? How long did it take you to knit?

I ran out of border yearn1 it took me about four weeks.

Anything else you'd like to share about your baby blanket or knitting in general?

Mosaic patterns knot in the round are wonderful and fast baby blankets!
