Ezra Steele's Steel Gray Cabled Hat

Ezra's handknit cabled baby hat was made by me (mommy!) before he was ever born. While pregnant, I made lots of hats from this same pattern, in different colors of yarn. I love this color on him. His middle name is Steele, and this color (technically named slate) reminds me of the color of steel. His eyes are a gray color, so little things like that make mommy's happy!

I used Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece in Slate. It is my favorite yarn, especially for hats, because it keeps your head warm without being scratchy. I also love the matte finish, it really shows off the cables well. I used size 6 double pointed needles (Clover bamboo).

I used a free pattern for a Five Cable Baby Hat from Hey Julie's blog. I found this pattern very simple, quick, and easy to use. I have in fact made several hats from this pattern.

No problems, and it took about 2-3 hours to knit.

Love the fact that this handknit hat was captured in his photos. We will keep the hat and photos for years to come. Hopefully even to be passed down to Ezra's children some day! :)
