Dragons and Stars

Dragons & Stars
I had no pattern for this quilt; it's a combination of ideas. I didn't want to just frame the blocks with the castle fabric so I put a black frame around each block to set them off and to square them up. There are stars on each panel so I wanted stars in my sashing. I wasn't sure what colors to use for the stars, but while shopping at a favorite quilt shop in Omaha, I found fabric that had yellow/orange and green/blue that matched perfectly. I got four colors out of two fabrics. I put larger-than-half-square triangles at the top to make it look more like a castle and used black binding to frame it. I machine quilted by stitching in the ditch and then free-montioned around the dragons. What I like most about this quilt are the bright colors and detailed blocks. I think this will give my granddaughter (she came 3 weeks early) a lot to look at as she grows. |
