Don't feed the Dragon
by Heather Wilson
For Halloween, my daughter asked me to make up a couple baby hats for her six-month old. I found a pattern for a dragon hat and tweaked it to the creation here. I used my life-size doll "model" for sizing while waiting for my grandson to come visit. It was way cuter on him than my model! I am a crocheter (my daughter is the knitter). This hat was made with a 4mm (G-6) crochet hook and yarns I had kicking around. The body of the hat and the spots are made from Phentex (a medium worsted weight would be my first choice), the scales from 100% cotton, both initially purchased at Walmart (I really need a local yarn store in my home town!!!). The pattern was a freebie on FaveCrafts (http://www.favecrafts.com/Crochet-for-Kids/Kids-Dragon-Hat-from-red-heart-yarn). I modified it by making a curly tail instead of a stuffed one.
