Christening Shawl detail

Please describe and tell us about your baby blanket.

Lace shawl for my first grand-niece. I knitted one for her mother's birth and felt that the first of the next generation deserved even better.

What yarn and needles did you use and where did you get them? Why did you pick this yarn?

Sarah's Yarns, natural cashemere and silk. I wanted something exceptionally soft. The silk added a sheen.

Tell us more about your design. Was it inspired by another pattern? Why did you pick those colors?

It was based on a lace shawl pattern. I didn't save the tweaks I made as I didn't ever want it to be duplicated. White, for the new baby. I also adapted the shawl pattern to a christening dress and outfit.

Did you run into any problems when knitting your baby blanket? How long did it take you to knit?

I had a problem with the border corners in getting them to fit without puckers or ruffling. It took me almost 3 months to finish.

Anything else you'd like to share about your baby blanket or knitting in general?

This blanket was the first time I'd been able to afford to use a luxury yarn. I did a really good job on it and it's something I'm very proud of.
