Carter's Cozy Blue Wool Hat
(Benton Harbor, MI, USA)
I knit this hat for my 18 month old son, Carter this fall. It is in tones of blues and purples which are his favorite colors.
I used a worsted weight wool yarn that I've had in my yarn stash for quite some time. I don't remember where it was from but I picked it because I wanted wool and those colors are beautiful with his eyes.
I didn't use a pattern, it was knit with the stockingette stitch so the bottom edge rolled up which I wanted. I simply knit a long row that will be the widest part of his head and gradually decrease as I go. I use a hat I made last year as a general guide or I've been known to hold it on his head while it is in progress!
I think it could be a little longer, lol. It doesn't quite cover his ears after it rolls up. It is perfect for fall but come winter I'll be knitting another one that is larger. It took me a couple hours to knit.
I'm really new to knitting. Well, that isn't entirely true but I only knit about one or two easy hats a year so I still consider myself to be new! The first hats I made I used a pattern but once I figured out the concept of decreasing I stopped and just do it myself.
