Boats and Blue

by Kristin
(Washington state)

This is my third son's quilt and I was having a hard time feeling inspired. This was before my introduction to the world of of internet fabrics! I love blue and brown, so that part was easy. I thought about doing cowboys, but just couldn't get the fabrics to come together.

I went to our local quilt shop and asked for help and the woman was so helpful! She helped me select fabrics and I love the result. My focus fabric is a sweet vintage looking boat print. I love that it has red in it. I think almost every quilt looks better with a little bit of red.

I used some fabrics from my stash as well as the fabrics from my shopping trip. I backed it with a cute and cuddly flannel print of light blue with polka dots. I love having such a soft backing. When I laid out the squares, it looked too busy, so I added a cream flannel sashing. I love seeing my precious little boys snuggled under quilts I made just for them!
