Please describe and tell us about your baby blanket.

I knit this blanket while expecting my first baby. As we were keeping the gender a surprise, we decided to call the baby 'Blueberry' until it was born and we picked a proper name. I really loved knitting the pattern, but even more so enjoyed all the time thinking about the baby and all of the wonderful changes that were soon going to happen. It was very much mindful knitting - mindful of the new life about to come into the world.

What yarn and needles did you use and where did you get them? Why did you pick this yarn?
I used size 11 straight metal needles. My grandmother was an avid knitter/crocheter and when she passed away I inherited all of her needles and notions. It made knitting a blanket for my baby even more special to use my Nana's needles. I picked the yarn because I like Lion Brand products, but especially because this Homespun was soft, cushy, and most importantly washable!

Tell us more about your design. Was it inspired by another pattern? Why did you pick those colors?
This is the Lion Brand Diagonal Knit Blanket pattern, knit as written. I picked this color because it was the closest to the color of blueberry fruit and therefore our little Blueberry - the inspiration for the whole project.

Did you run into any problems when knitting your baby blanket? How long did it take you to knit?
It took me about six weeks to knit the blanket, although I usually end up only having time to knit at my weekly knitting night. I started it while my husband and I were on our last baby-free vacation this fall. I didn't run into any problems; this was a pattern I have knit before for friend's babies (so friendly for little fingers).

Anything else you'd like to share about your baby blanket or knitting in general?
I love knitting; my mom and grandmother were avid knitters and I love keeping that tradition in the family. I started a knitting group a few years ago when I moved to town and it makes knitting even more enjoyable. With all the different ages and levels of experience it means we are inspirations and mentors to each other. Knitting the blanket for Blueberry with my Nana's needles and while in the company of good friends makes it that much more special.
