Beary Blue Blanket

by Susie

Please describe and tell us about your baby blanket.

This blanket is a fairly simple, but very cute, knit and purl combination that results in a little army of bears. It uses a seed stitch pattern around the edges to give it a nice look. I made this blanket for a friend of mine due with her first baby, a little boy, at the end of the month. I'm so excited for her!

What yarn and needles did you use and where did you get them? Why did you pick this yarn?

I used two skeins of Lion Brand's Pound of Love yarn, held double, that I got at JoAnn's, in Denim. The needles I used were KnitPicks Harmony needles, size 11.

Tell us more about your design. Was it inspired by another pattern? Why did you pick those colors?

This design is a free Teddy Bear Baby Blanket pattern from Crystal Palace Yarns. I've been wanting to try making shapes like this, and it was so cute that I figured this would be a good time to do it, to make a fun blanket for my friend's baby. I really liked the darker blue, which is why I chose to use the Denim color.

Did you run into any problems when knitting your baby blanket? How long did it take you to knit?

It's a fairly straightforward pattern, and the only trouble I had was trying to decide if I wanted to make a fourth row of bears once I had done the prescribed three. It took me a little less than a month to finish it, working on it off and on and between other knitting projects.

Anything else you'd like to share about your baby blanket or knitting in general?

I really loved this pattern, and loved the yarn and needles I used. Once it was washed and dried, it is so soft and squishy! I really hope my friend (and her baby!) like this blanket, and that it gets good use. Having friends having babies is always fun for a knitter, because baby things are so fun to make!
