Simple Baby Sun Hat Pattern for Sewing
You can easily sew a simple baby sun hat with these instructions. If a sewing a hat seems daunting to you, think again! The most important part when constructing a baby hat is getting the size right, so please read the tips below.
The easiest way to start is to measure the circumference of your child's head. Divide this number by 3.14 and you'll have the diameter size of the circle shape - or width of the circle. Be sure to add an inch or two for seam allowance. The length of the middle brim is just slightly larger than your circumference measurement, adding for seam allowance again. The size of the two brim pieces that flare out will have the inner circle the same size at the top of the hat.

You can also turn this simple baby sun hat pattern into a reversible design by just making two of the same, tucking one inside the other and sewing the edges together with a zigzag stitch. Add patches, pockets or strips of fabric to jazz up the design.

I've used lighter quilting weight cottons for these hats but you could also try one of the solar blocking fabrics to protect your child from the sun even more.

Have fun crafting a baby hat!
