Baby Crosses Quilt

My college roommate always had impeccable style...when I found out she was expecting a baby girl this summer, I knew I had to make something soft and cozy enough for Baby and stylish enough for Mom. It needed to have that perfect blend of shabby chic and California cool.

I was inspired by a quilt in Kaffe Fassett's Quilt Road book. I used fabrics from my stash for the piecing - I'd done a pink and brown quilt before and had lots left over! Very shabby chic.

For the back, I visited my favorite local quilt shop - A Pieceful Heart - and picked up some great, slightly beachy stuff with giant pink flowers and green and brown fronds. The quilt is all machine pieced and quilted, with a cotton batting and is about 40x50 inches.

I was thrilled to get this e-mail after the quilt had been received in the mail by the recipient: "I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!!! ... I could tell you were very purposeful with the beachy fabric (as we live by the beach) and the shabby chic patterns and colors on the other side...it is absolutely perfect for Baby and this will be a keepsake/heirloom for sure!!" And that makes all the effort worth it! :)
