Baby Cap of +10 Cuteness
Terry rocking the hat
I knit this hat for a friend's daughter, who was born in May. This was my first time knitting baby stuff so I fully explored the possibilities of knitting for a baby. Since I'm a relatively new knitter, there were a lot of new things for me to learn with this and the other baby items - i-cords and hat construction with the hat, knitting with DPNs for the booties, etc.
I used Schachenmayer nomotta Catania self-striping cotton yarn, and 3.5mm circular needles for the main part and 3.5mm DPNs for the last rounds, bind-off and i-cords, which I both got at my local store. I picked cotton so she could wear it during the hot summer, and purposely picked a neutral color with the violet, white and blue because the mom didn't want to do the "pink for girls" thing.
I used a pattern called "Sweet Baby Cap"
It was quite a learning curve, but I didn't have any trouble, as the pattern is very clearly written. It took me two pleasant afternoons of sitting in the park in the April sun, so probably 4-5 hours.
I can't wait for the next baby I can knit stuff for! I've also been knitting things for this little one now that she's here and growing out of the first things I knitted, but I think the anticipation of knitting while still waiting to meet this new person is the best.
The hat is modeled here by Terry the cat, who doesn't really have the ideal ears for this sort of hat, so it bulges a little in the ear region. I should probably make him a hat with holes for the ears to poke through, because he seemed to like this one.
