I made this hat for a baby shower for a friend of mine. Her little lady is now 4 months old and the hat fits perfectly, just in time for winter. This hat has a little bill on the front and a pink flower.
I used Lion Brand Cotton Ease yarn that I purchased from JoAnn fabrics. I loved the color selection in this brand of yarn, and I loved the cotton look. I used size "I" crochet hook for both the hat and the flower. I used one of my grandma's old crochet hooks.
I learned how to crochet from a "learn how to crochet book" probably 8 years ago, and once I learned I couldn't wait to make hats. I knew how to knit hats, but I wanted to learn how to crochet them. So I tried to figure it out on my own with out a pattern. And I did! So since then I have been altering my own "pattern" by adding a bill or little flowers and buttons. The flower pattern I found on youtube and learned by watching a video.
No, not really. The only problem that I tend to run into is making the hats fit who I am making them for. Because I don't use a pattern, I tend to make it up as I go. But this one turned out great! This hat took about 3 hours to make.
