Almond Butter Playdough Recipe

by Jenn Reed
(Brown City, MI)

I loved peanut butter playdough as a kid (yum!) but since we all know how peanut butter is a big no no these days I decided to give my mom's recipe a shot and change it to make almond butter playdough. It turned out great and it actually is pretty tasty!

Here is my almond butter playdough recipe:

1 cup almond butter
1/4 cup honey
2/3 cup powdered milk

Mix together to make the dough. I don't actually measure when I make this, so just add the powdered milk until the texture is how you want it.

My son loves to cook and make pretend cookies with it so it is super fun for him to then actually take a real bite. Me too, like I said, it is pretty yummy.

Don't say peanuts are a no no and then use almonds
by: Anonymous

I agree with almonds are still nuts. Yes, peanuts and tree nuts are separate allergies, but don't say peanuts are a no no these days and then make it with almonds. Almonds are just as big of a no no to serve to other people and their children. People with almond allergies have just as severe of a reaction as people with peanut allergies. My husband and 3 yr old can't even use shampoos with almond oil in them, and stuff processed on the same equipment as almonds/ other tree nuts would kill him within minutes without medical intervention. Our 3 yr. old son has had to be rushed to the ER multiple times when other people have not read warning labels to see if food was processed on the same equipment as tree nuts. Not to mention that most almond products are manufactured on the same machines as peanut products, so really you may not be avoiding the peanut no-no, anyway!

This was really yummy! And regarding the other commenter who gave the recipe only one star because almonds are still nuts, well it wasn't ever mentioned that it was allergen free. Some kids are allergic to wheat! Or dairy! Or air! I don't think there is an alergen free version of anything.

Almonds are still nuts

This sounds delish and would be a great nut-free substitute for children with nut allergies (like my son), but almonds are still nuts, so it's definitely NOT safe for children with nut allergies. Specifically, almonds are tree nuts, so it may be OK for kids who are only allergic to tree nuts, not ground nuts.

I may have to mix a batch for myself though, because it sounds so tasty!

Awesome!

My kids love playing with playdough, but always forget to put it away and it gets all dried out. With this playdough, they won't have to put it away, because they'll eat it all until it's gone! Thanks so much for sharing!

Looks great, thanks for sharing! Good idea to use the almond butter instead of peanut butter too.
