ABC Baby Blanket
Please describe and tell us about your baby blanket.
I crocheted this blanket for a kindergarten teacher who had been trying for years to have a baby. Her son was born Dec. 2010. I knew she would love the ABC's on the blanket. It was a big hit at her baby shower.
What yarn and needles did you use and where did you get them? Why did you pick this yarn?
I used Lion Brand Pound of Love, antique white yarn and an F hook. I used the Pound of Love yarn as it works up nicely, washes well and is soft for a baby. I purchased the yarn at A.C. Moore.
Tell us more about your design. Was it inspired by another pattern? Why did you pick those colors?
I have had this pattern in my pattern collection for years. It was on the inside of an old Caron Simply Soft yarn wrapper.I was waiting for the right person to make it for, and Barbara, the kindergarten teacher, was the right mom-to-be.
I chose the antique white as it's a neutral color and the mom-to- be didn't know the sex of the baby. It's also a color that will go with any room decor.
Did you run into any problems when knitting your baby blanket? How long did it take you to knit?
The main problem I had was that I wasn't able to enlarge the graph to make it easier to read and count stitches. It took me awhile before I was able to figure out the pattern. The letters are worked from the back of the blanket with the puff stitch showing up on the front side. It took about 2 months to make.
Anything else you'd like to share about your baby blanket or knitting in general? I love to crochet and was so glad that Barbara was the one to receive this blanket for her son. I enjoy crocheting blankets for all the mom's-to-be where I work, friends, family and for charity.
