a room that inspires stories

an angle of our playroom

an angle of our playroom

This is my oldest daughter's playroom (our other daughter is only 2 months old, not quite ready to play yet.). It is the most important room in our house. This is where inspiration and creativity are at their best.

All the items you see are from natural sources. A lot of them are handmade by myself or others.

A lot of thought, and time went into the creation or purchase of everything in here. We want to teach our kids to not just buy things but to truly think about why you want that item, is it well made, safe, natural? Is it heirloom quality to pass on down to the next generation and not add waste to the land fills?

We believe in children's play and the waldorf philosphy so everything is open ended. The simplest toys, such as the hand knit wool pumpkin, are the toys my daughter is most drawn to. She loves to play under her simple canopy as well. You can not see in the picture but it is hand dyed to look like the sky with clouds. We love to lay under her canopy and look up at her clouds telling stories about each one.

a room that inspires stories NEW
by: Lisa Mark

It is very important to have playroom in house if you have kids. Otherwise they can make your life like hell. Its a lovely room every child wish to have. My friend has a nice experience with essaycenter essay during last semester.

Awesome NEW
by: Diana

This was the only one I saw where it looked like the decorator actually took some time to "decorate". I'm sorry, but the others look as if they were just thrown together at the last minute. This one is sturdy looking, like it's going to last a long time and still be there the next time the kids want to play or read. Great job! ( And I've done playrooms in basements, attics, and spaces in between, even in an oversized closet, since I had 7 children and I've done it now for 8 grand children.)

Expensive
by: Anonymous

This one is clearly has the most expensive stuff and for that reason I don't think it should have won. It is beautiful, but they don't need these toys.

Congrats, this one rocks!!!
by: Anonymous

Congrats to you mama & I was happy to see what you wrote in the comments about being a low-income family. It is true, a beautiful room like this can be acheived without breaking the bank. It takes time, but for every one, single quality toy you purchase you simply don't purchase anything else (no plastic junk, no crap from a dollar store) and it will last and last until you can afford to get another one. I"m so happy this entry won!

I wish I could add to my description!
by: Nicole

LOL, 1 thing that I think is important for me to mention that I did not mention above (along with many other things I didn't mention) is that we are a low income family. As I stated this is the most important room in the house to us so thats why all the effort etc is in this one room.
Also, all our toys are gender neutral and for ALL ages b/c we plan on having 5 kids total and they will all play with these toys. I have no plans to buy any more toys for them EXCEPT some nice handmade things here and there OR something I may make them myself.
Ok,thanks for letting me add on sort of! :)

Truly Amazing!
by: Ashley

This room looks like it came from a magazine as a winning room already! I am so amazed, and it looks more beautiful than any "mainstream" playroom. Those rooms look so tacky and cluttered. This playroom inspires even me to be creative, and I am all grown up! =) This is the winner!
